Michael Goldfarb, M.D., FACS, received his medical degree from New York University School of Medicine. He completed his residency in surgery at Beth Israel Medical Center, New York.

Before taking on the role of Chairman and Program Director of the Department of Surgery at Monmouth, Dr. Goldfarb was the associate program director for the surgical residency program at Monmouth Medical Center. He also serves as medical director of Monmouth's Cranmer Ambulatory Surgery Center and Surgical Coordinator of the Jacqueline M. Wilentz Comprehensive Breast Center at Monmouth. An attending surgeon at Monmouth Medical Center since 1974, he was also an Associate Professor of Surgery at Monmouth's former teaching affiliate, MCP o Hahnemann University School of Medicine, Philadelphia and now Professor of Surgery at Drexel University College of Medicine.

One of his areas of expertise is breast cancer surgery and research. His surgical management protocol for breast cancer has been adopted by all surgeons at Monmouth Medical Center resulting in outstanding results. Dr. Goldfarb has been recognized in New Jersey Life as one of the Top Doctors for Women, Red Book as one of four breast cancer specialists in New Jersey, New Jersey Monthly as one of the top doctors in New Jersey.

He is a Founding Member of the American Trauma Society and is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons and the Royal Society of Medicine. He is a member of the New Jersey Society of Surgeons, the Society of Breast Surgeons, and the Society of Laparoendoscopic Surgeons, and he serves on the Board of Trustees for Monmouth Medical Center.

Among his special honors and achievements, Dr. Goldfarb received the U.S. Army Commendation Medal for the development of Kevlar soft body armor and the creation of a "bulletproof" definition for the U.S. Bureau of Standards. In 1975, Dr. Goldfarb led the development of the first hospital-based ambulatory surgicenter in New Jersey at Monmouth Medical Center and in 1990 at Monmouth he led the first surgical team in the state to perform laparoscopic cholecystectomy. He also was the principal investigator for Monmouth's clinical research study of sentinel lymph node biopsy for breast cancer.

Most recently, Dr. Goldfarb was named among the best breast cancer surgeons in the country by Red Book magazine, and was named one of the top surgeons in the New York metropolitan region by New York magazine's annual listing of top doctors.
